Photoshop Practice: Making Selections & Creating Masks
There are multiple ways to select items in Photoshop. Choosing the appropriate one depends on the object being selected. Try the following selection tools on the images identified. After you select a portion of an image, the best non-destructive way to isolate that part is to create a MASK. This is done by entering the "select and mask" mode or clicking on the layer mask icon below the layers panel, that looks like a rectangle with a circle in the middle (see photo on the right). We will practice these selecting & masking techniques using the images below.
Use the Quick Selection Tool
Use Magic Wand Tool
Use the Polygonal Lasso tool
Use Lasso Tool
Use Rectangular Marquee Tool
Use the Magnetic Lasso Tool
Practice: Combining Images
Now you will practice combining images. Below are two backgrounds - for each one, create a composition that uses two other objects from the options above. Be sure give each image its own layer. The result doesn't have to make sense, but should be convincing.
