Creating Paths with Pen Tool
Use the "Pen Tool" to create anchor points, in order to build lines and basic shapes. Curves are created by creating an anchor point and dragging from there on an angle - the direction of the angle affects the shape of the curve. Download the file below and we will work through the shapes together.
Shapes can also be modified (changed) by moving or even removing anchor points. Download and work through altering the following shapes by moving and removing anchor points.
Now that you understand how shapes are created and modified, try tracing the following shapes...
For more complicated images, you can use illustrator's function called "Image Trace" in order to turn a bitmap image / file (e.g. jpeg, png, bmp) into a vector image / file that can be enlarged indefinitely. Use the Image Trace function to vectorize the image in the file and then use select and fill to colour it in for practice.
